Who doesn't love baked goods? It's getting pricey to eat out and why spend money when you can make a delicious cake in under hour and with a cost of $4.00? Head over to your local store and buy a cake mix and frosting. Once you get home is when the fun begins; follow the easy instructions on the box and have the kids be a part of the baking process. Your child can crack the eggs, while you measure the liquids or vice versa. Pour everything in a bowl and help your child mix the batter. Pour the batter into a pan and bake. Allow your child to lick the fork for a quick treat. (Most cake boxes require you to set the oven for 350 degrees and bake for 35-45 minutes).
Once the cake has baked, let it cool for 20 minutes. Once the cake has cooled is when the magic happens. You and your child can frost the cake. This part may get messy but allow your child to have fun holding the spatula and smooth the icing on the cake.
Once the cake has been frosted, now it's time to eat and enjoy the delicious cake made with love.
Benefits of baking:
Baking isn't just fun but teaches real life skills.
Teaches your child to follow basic instructions (i.e. grab eggs, pour water, etc.)
Teaches your child how to identify ingredients and other items (i.e. eggs, water, oil, pan, etc.)
Teaches fine motor skills. How to hold a spatula, how to move their hands to smooth the icing
Lastly, teaches your child how to wait. While making a cake has a sweet reward, we have to wait for it to bake.
